AYUSH degrees — Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani and Siddha — are full professional medical degrees with their own regulators, counselling system and career paths. Admission uses NEET-UG, but the counselling runs separately from MBBS. Here is how it works.

The courses and regulators

  • BAMS (Ayurveda), BUMS (Unani), BSMS (Siddha) — regulated by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).
  • BHMS (Homoeopathy) — regulated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).

Each course runs for about five and a half years including internship.

AACCC: the all-India counselling

The Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC), under the Ministry of Ayush, conducts all-India counselling for:

  • All-India quota seats in government and government-aided AYUSH colleges.
  • Seats in deemed universities, including management and NRI seats.
  • Seats in central universities and national institutes.

State counselling

State authorities conduct counselling for state quota seats in government colleges and for seats in private AYUSH colleges, including management and NRI seats where the state's rules provide for them. Some states run AYUSH counselling together with MBBS and BDS; others run it separately.

Step-by-step

  • Qualify NEET-UG.
  • Register with AACCC for all-India, deemed and central seats.
  • Register with your state, and with other states that open private seats to outside candidates.
  • Fill and lock choices; track rounds carefully.
  • Report with documents and fees.

Checking approval

Approvals for AYUSH colleges are granted per academic year and intake. Before joining, confirm on the NCISM or NCH site that the college is permitted to admit students for the year you are joining. Read how to verify a college's approval.

Career scope

AYUSH graduates can register as practitioners in their system of medicine, pursue postgraduate MD/MS (Ayurveda) or MD (Homoeopathy), work in AYUSH hospitals and wellness centres, join the pharmaceutical and wellness industries, or work in research and public health programmes.
